How to Safely Use Your Hydraulic Pump System

There are several safety considerations you must be aware of prior to using hydraulic pumps, in order to avoid accidents. The best place to start, especially if you are working with a new type of system, is to read any provided safety and operating instructions, as well as any warning labels on the actual system. Reading these allows you to understand how the manufacturer intended the system to be used and avoids your using it incorrectly.

In addition to reading the safety and operating instructions, you should always:

  • Wear the proper safety attire, if required.
  • Inspect all hoses, connections, and other parts of components of the systems to look for leaks, broken pieces, and worn parts that may need to be replaced.
  • Inspect the fluid in the reservoir to ensure it is filled to the proper level.
  • Verify hoses are free from obstructions and will not get caught in moving parts.
  • Confirm the maximum weight capacity of hydraulics when they are used to lift items prior to lifting.
  • Verify the system relief valve(s) are set to the correct level.
  • Before performing maintenance, shut off the system and relieve all pressure that may be trapped in sections of the circuit.
  • After replacing parts, hoses, couplings, or other components, do an inspection to confirm there are no leaks and no air trapped in the lines.

Keep in mind, the actual precautions you need to take can and do vary from one type of pump to the next. For replacement pumps, parts, hoses, and other hydraulic components, call White House Products, Ltd. at +44 (0) 1475 742500 today!
