Haldex got its start in 1887, under the name Halda Fickurfabrik, in Svängsta, Sweden. Halda Fickurfabrik began as a manufacturer of clocks, and later became known for its taximeters. The early years of the company were marked by a number of name changes, mergers and acquisitions, and shifts in production focus. Eventually the company was acquired by Svenska Bromsregulatorer (SAB), which had been founded in 1916 as a manufacturer of brake systems for trains.

It can be said that the modern history of this respected manufacturer began in 1962, when SAB embarked on a daring experiment to test whether its brake adjusters for trains could be adapted to road vehicles. The experiment proved extremely successful. In fact, Haldex remains a world leader in the production of brake adjusters, with over 75 million manufactured to date.

In 1985, the company officially changed its name to Haldex. In 2011, it split into four distinct divisions. One of these divisions is the company that has carried the name Haldex into the present day. Haldex remains known around the world as a top manufacturer of brake and suspension systems intended for use in heavy vehicles.

Today, Haldex can count virtually all major truck and trailer manufacturers across Europe and North America among its customers. Haldex hydraulic pumps and other products can be found in many industrial applications, including construction equipment and many kinds of hydraulic systems. The hydraulic division was formed following the purchase of Garphytan the owners of the John S Barnes bussiness base in the United States and Germany.

Haldex underwent further transformations in 2008 when it acquired Concentric. In 2011, the Haldex hydraulics division demerged and was renamed Concentric AB. The new company’s products included the F12 FERRA hydraulic pump, intended for use in agricultural machinery, materials handling vehicles, and construction equipment.

The company employs over 2,200 employees worldwide and has offices in 19 countries, including its headquarters in Landskrona, Sweden.
