In 1921, Komatsu Iron Works was established when it separated from Takeuchi Mining Co. It developed the first crawler-type farm tractor in Japan by 1931, introduced the D50 bulldozer in 1947, and focused on developing heavy-duty vehicles and equipment through the 1950s, including its first export of construction equipment, a motor grader, to Argentina in 1955. Komatsu America Corporation was established in 1970 and marked the beginning of overseas expansions over the next several decades.
