The Vickers Manufacturing Co was founded in Los Angeles by Harry Franklin Vickers, known by many as the father of Industrial Hydraulics, in 1921 merging with the Sperry corporation in 1937 to become Sperry Vickers. In 1955 the group merged with Remington Rand making Vickers part of the Sperry Rand Corporation. In 1999 it was acquired by its present owner Eaton. Harry Franklin Vickers died in 1977 and had held 95 patents during his lifetime, all hydraulic component related, one of the earliest being from 1925 for the pressure balanced Vane Pump a design that has evolved in the last 90 years but whose key features are as applicable today as then.
