Although very effective in forming seals, O-rings do occasionally fail, which can lead to severe damage to hydraulic pumps and other system components. In some cases, the failure can be traced to inadequate installation that prevents the device from forming a correct seal.

Another cause is a phenomenon known as gas expansion rupture, in which gas becomes trapped inside the O-ring itself due to excessively rapid changes in pressure, eventually damaging the material.

Excessive temperatures or gas pressure also cause many O-rings to fail and, for this reason, it is essential to select O rings made of the correct material and hardness for the particular conditions of your application.

O-rings are available in a variety of sizes and materials. Our inventory includes synthetic rubber nitrile O-rings (noted for heat- and temperature-resistance, as well as imperviousness to many chemicals) and Viton O-rings (noted for fuel- and oil-resistance).
